Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming mythological film Ramayana has received a major boost ahead of its theatrical release, with West Bengal announcing tax-free status for the movie. The decision was announced by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari during Dussehra celebrations in Kolkata.
The film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Yash as Ravana and Sai Pallavi as Sita. It is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on November 5, 2026, with special previews in India beginning on November 4.
West Bengal Announces Tax Exemption
The announcement came as members of the film’s team attended Vijayadashami celebrations at Central Park in Salt Lake, Kolkata. The Chief Minister confirmed that Ramayana would receive the same tax-free status granted to several other films in the state.
The decision has drawn attention to the film ahead of its release, particularly among audiences looking forward to the large-scale adaptation of the Indian epic.
Ranbir Kapoor and Yash Attend Dussehra Celebrations
Ranbir Kapoor and Yash joined the celebrations alongside producer Namit Malhotra, actor Ravi Dubey and director Nitesh Tiwari. Ranbir expressed his happiness at being in Kolkata and connected the festival’s message with the film’s central theme: the triumph of truth and goodness over evil.
The appearance also gave fans an opportunity to see members of the cast participating in a major public event before the film reaches cinemas.
A Major Mythological Film Set for November
Ramayana is planned as a two-part cinematic project and is being mounted on a reported budget of around ₹4,000 crore for both parts. Its principal cast also includes Ravi Dubey as Lakshman and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman.
With its November release approaching, the tax-free announcement has added another significant development to the film’s pre-release journey. The actual effect on ticket prices will depend on how the exemption is implemented.
