Maharashtra is planning a new underwater tourism experience that could give visitors an unusual way to explore marine life and the underwater environment. The proposed project combines a specialised tourist submarine with an artificial coral reef, aiming to create a new attraction for people interested in the sea and nature.
Tourist Submarine Planned for Underwater Exploration
The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation has outlined a project involving a Triton submarine designed to offer passengers panoramic underwater views. The plan is intended to provide a different sightseeing experience from conventional coastal excursions.
Visitors could observe the underwater environment from inside the submarine, creating an opportunity to discover marine surroundings without having to take part in scuba diving.
Artificial Reef to Support Marine Conservation
The proposal also includes developing an artificial coral reef to encourage marine growth and support underwater biodiversity. Plans involve placing a vessel underwater to create a habitat for marine organisms, alongside coral restoration efforts.
If implemented, the project could add a new dimension to Maharashtra’s coastal tourism offerings by bringing together underwater exploration, environmental education and marine conservation.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to develop distinctive attractions that encourage visitors to explore more of the state’s coastline.
