A new original anime titled Mecha Samurai is preparing to make its debut online, bringing together futuristic battles, samurai-inspired heroes and mechanical creatures. The project is a collaboration between TV Tokyo and short-form anime producer Plott, with character designs created by Hiroyuki Takei, the creator of Shaman King.
The series is set in modern-day Japan, where mysterious gateways known as Demon Gates allow mechanical monsters to enter the human world. A group of samurai must confront these unusual threats using specially powered weapons.
Short Episodes to Begin Streaming in November
The anime is scheduled to launch with vertical-format short videos on November 2. These clips will be released through YouTube, X, Instagram and TikTok, making the series accessible across several social platforms.
A seven-episode pre-season is also planned, with its first episode scheduled to arrive on YouTube on November 20. The main series is expected to follow in spring 2027.
Main Voice Cast Announced
The production has confirmed several voice actors for the new project. Kentaro Mashiro will voice Chiaki Kuzumi, the young samurai at the centre of the story. Riona Yamashita will play Sana Fujimiya, while Ayumu Mizukami is also part of the announced cast. Additional casting information has been revealed as the project prepares for launch.
A New Anime Format for TV Tokyo
Mecha Samurai marks TV Tokyo’s first anime production designed around distribution through social media and online streaming platforms. The project combines the fast-paced format of vertical videos with an action-focused supernatural setting.
With Hiroyuki Takei contributing the main character designs and the first online clips arriving soon, the series is set to introduce its samurai-versus-monsters concept to viewers in a different format from traditional television anime.
