The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is moving towards making provident fund services easier and more accessible for millions of subscribers. On the occasion of its 74th Foundation Day, celebrated on November 1, 2026, the organisation highlighted new initiatives aimed at reducing paperwork and simplifying access to PF-related services.
Two important developments include the proposed automatic settlement of eligible inactive PF accounts with small balances and the introduction of WhatsApp-based services for members.
Inactive PF Accounts With Up to ₹1,000 Balance
One of the key initiatives is the automatic settlement of eligible inoperative EPF accounts holding balances of up to ₹1,000.
Under this initiative, eligible members may not need to submit a separate settlement request to receive their small remaining PF balances. The move is intended to help clear inactive accounts and make the settlement process more convenient.
However, detailed eligibility conditions and the implementation process have not yet been fully specified.
EPFO Plans to Introduce WhatsApp Services
EPFO is also working to expand its digital service options through WhatsApp. This initiative is expected to give subscribers another convenient way to access selected provident fund services without depending entirely on traditional office visits or online portals.
The complete list of services and the official access procedure are yet to be detailed.
74th Foundation Day Celebrations
The organisation marked its 74th Foundation Day in New Delhi on November 1, 2026. The event was attended by Union Labour and Employment Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya.
The celebrations also included the recognition of winners of the EPFO Foundation Day Quiz 2026, organised in collaboration with MyGov. The quiz received participation from 8,584 people across the country.
What PF Subscribers Should Know
The new initiatives reflect EPFO’s efforts to simplify member services and improve digital access. Automatic settlement of eligible small inactive balances could make it easier for members to receive their pending PF money.
Subscribers should wait for official instructions regarding eligibility, timelines and WhatsApp service activation before taking any action.
