Crunchyroll has announced that JH’s popular webtoon The Boxer is being adapted into a television anime. The announcement was made during the streaming platform’s panel at New York Comic Con on Thursday, alongside the release of a teaser video and details about the main cast and production team.
The anime will follow the story of the original webtoon, which has attracted a large readership since its debut in South Korea.
The Boxer Anime: Director, Staff and Production Details
Yudai Kubota, known for My Happy Marriage, and Wonyeong Kang will direct the upcoming series. Kang previously worked as a key animator and main animator on Cardfight!! Vanguard overDress.
Masahiro Suwa, whose credits include The Rising of the Shield Hero, is responsible for character designs. Toshiya Ono, known for his work on 86 and The Promised Neverland, will oversee series composition and scripts.
Animation will be handled by the newly established studio breccia in collaboration with South Korea’s STUDIO JEMI. Muneki Ogasawara, a founding member of Kinema Citrus, established breccia.
HAYATE, an anime production venture formed by Aniplex and Crunchyroll, is producing the series, while BLUE RIGHTS serves as the creative producer.
Main Cast of The Boxer Anime
The production has also confirmed four principal voice cast members:
- Kōki Uchiyama as Yu
- Kenshō Ono as Ryu
- Tomokazu Seki as K
- Toshiyuki Toyonaga as J
Yu is the central character of the story, while Ryu becomes his first opponent. K is portrayed as a legendary trainer, and J is a retired legendary boxer.
Streaming Platform and Release Information
Crunchyroll will stream The Boxer anime. However, the production team has not yet announced a premiere date or provided details about its television broadcast.

The Boxer Webtoon’s Global Reach
Created by JH, The Boxer first launched on South Korea’s Naver Webtoon platform in 2019. It was subsequently published on LINE Manga in Japan from 2020 to 2022.
The webtoon received an award at the 2024 World Webtoon Awards and had surpassed 1.06 billion cumulative views as of 2026. Ize Press publishes the English-language print edition.
