Himachal Pradesh has experienced a noticeable drop in temperatures following rain and fresh snowfall in higher-altitude areas in mid-October. Snow was reported around Keylong and Koksar in Lahaul and Spiti, as well as in the higher reaches of Kullu and Kinnaur, while rain affected destinations including Manali, Dharamshala, Kangra and Mandi.
The changing weather has added an early winter feel to parts of the state, attracting the attention of travellers planning autumn holidays in the mountains.
Manali and Nearby Areas Feel the Temperature Drop
During the reported weather spell, Manali recorded a maximum temperature of 11.2°C, while Shimla and Dharamshala recorded 21°C. Conditions varied across the state, with colder temperatures in high-altitude locations.
The weather department forecast further snowfall in higher reaches and rain in the middle hills . Drier conditions were expected across much of Himachal Pradesh after that, with temperatures potentially rising gradually.
What Travellers Should Know Before Visiting
October can offer clear mountain views and autumn scenery, but conditions in higher areas can change quickly. Travellers heading towards Lahaul and Spiti or high mountain passes should check official road and weather advisories before beginning their journey.
Popular destinations such as Shimla, Manali and Dharamshala remain options for a hill holiday, but visitors should pack warm clothing and allow flexibility in their travel plans. Early snowfall does not guarantee that snow will be present in every hill station or remain throughout the season.
