India’s actively managed equity mutual funds continued to attract money during the first half of the 2026–27 financial year, even as the pace of new SIP registrations and new fund offer collections slowed.
Net inflows into actively managed equity schemes increased by 5% year-on-year . The figures suggest that existing investors continued contributing to mutual funds despite market volatility.
New SIP Account Additions Fall Sharply
The industry added approximately 34 lakh contributing SIP accounts across asset classes during the six-month period. This was significantly below the 1.14 crore accounts added during the corresponding period a year earlier.
Collections from new actively managed equity fund launches also declined. New fund offers raised around ₹5,201 crore in the first half of FY27, compared with ₹15,658 crore during the same period last year—a fall of approximately 67%.
Existing Investors Continue to Contribute
One positive sign was the increase in average assets per contributing SIP account. The figure rose from ₹1.55 lakh to ₹1.77 lakh , an increase of about 14%.
Industry observers attributed the resilience in equity inflows partly to investors increasing their regular contributions and investing additional money during market corrections.
What This Means for SIP Investors
The figures show that slower growth in new accounts does not necessarily mean lower overall investment flows. Existing investors can continue contributing even when markets are uncertain.
However, mutual funds carry market risk, and past inflows do not guarantee future returns. Investors should choose schemes based on their financial goals, time horizon and risk tolerance rather than relying only on industry-wide trends.
