The Ghost of Tsushima Legends anime is now scheduled to premiere in 2028, Crunchyroll announced during its New York Comic Con 2026 presentation. The announcement also introduced additional cast members and revealed more details about the creative team behind the upcoming series.
Mayumi Saco and Shinya Fukumatsu have joined the voice cast, although their respective character roles have not yet been disclosed. Saco previously voiced Tomoe in the original Ghost of Tsushima game. Tomoe is a skilled archer and the top student of Sensei Ishikawa. Fukumatsu is known for voicing Bomb in One-Punch Man.
Ghost of Tsushima Legends Anime: Cast and Production Team
Takanobu Mizuno, who directed “The Duel” segment of Star Wars: Visions, will direct the anime at Kamikaze Douga. Gen Urobuchi is responsible for the story composition and will co-write the script with Renji Oki.
The newly announced production staff includes Keiji Inai as music composer, Yoshikazu Iwanami as sound director and Yasumasa Koyama handling sound effects. Gyousyou Suzuki will create the title calligraphy. Suzuki previously worked on the calligraphy for the live-action drama adaptation of Barakamon.
HAYATE is producing the anime in collaboration with Aniplex and PlayStation Productions. Sony Music will serve as the music and soundtrack partner. As announced earlier, Crunchyroll will be the exclusive streaming platform for the series.
Ghost of Tsushima Game Series: A Brief History
The original Ghost of Tsushima video game launched for PlayStation 4 in July 2020. A remastered version followed on PlayStation 5 in 2021, before the game arrived on Windows in 2024.
Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, the multiplayer experience associated with the original game, debuted in October 2020. The franchise later expanded with Ghost of Yōtei, which was released for PlayStation 5 in October 2025. Its Echoes of Sekigahara downloadable content was released on October 1, 2026, one year later.
What Is Ghost of Tsushima About?
Set in 1274, the original game takes place during a Mongol invasion of Tsushima, an island defended by samurai warriors. After the invading forces devastate the island and conquer its people, one of the few surviving samurai rises to fight back.
The protagonist must move beyond traditional samurai methods and adopt unconventional tactics to protect the island and fight for Japan’s freedom. This transformation leads to the emergence of the Ghost, a warrior who uses a different approach to combat.
The Ghost of Tsushima Legends anime will bring the franchise’s story and world to an animated format. With its release planned for 2028, further details about the series are still to come.
