Himachal Pradesh is expanding its adventure tourism offerings with the launch of water sports activities at Kol Dam reservoir in Aehan, located in Mandi district. The initiative aims to attract more visitors to the scenic reservoir while creating new income opportunities for local communities.
The activities were inaugurated virtually by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. The new tourism project is planned across an approximately 35-kilometre stretch of the reservoir, connecting Aehan with Tattapani.
Speedboats, Jet Skis and Boat Rides
Visitors can look forward to a range of water-based recreational experiences, including speedboats, jet skis, banana boat rides, bumper rides and a mini cruise boat with seating for up to 20 passengers.
The range of attractions is intended to give travellers more options beyond Himachal Pradesh’s traditional mountain sightseeing and trekking experiences.
Kol Dam’s Tourism Potential
The reservoir’s natural surroundings are central to the project’s appeal. By developing the area as an adventure tourism destination, the state government hopes to draw visitors to a region that can offer scenic views alongside recreational activities.
Similar water sports facilities have already been introduced in Bilaspur, as the state works to broaden its tourism offering across different districts.
Supporting Local Employment
The project is also intended to create economic opportunities for local residents, particularly young people, through tourism-related work and services. Increased visitor numbers could support businesses connected with transport, accommodation, food and recreation.
Travellers planning to visit Kol Dam should confirm which activities are operating, along with local safety requirements and availability, before making the journey.
