Netflix is reportedly planning to eliminate around 1,000 jobs, marking its largest workforce reduction since 2022. The cuts are expected to affect approximately 6% of its employees, with product, technology, legal and human resources teams facing the greatest impact.
The reported decision comes as the streaming company reviews its organisational structure and priorities while continuing to invest in its business.
Netflix Co-CEOs Inform Employees About Layoffs
Netflix co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters informed employees about the planned job cuts through an email sent on Wednesday morning, according to reports.
In their message, the executives said the company was making organisational changes that would result in the departure of roughly 6% of its workforce. They acknowledged that such decisions were difficult and said supporting affected employees would remain a priority.
The company also indicated that the process would differ by country, with local leaders expected to contact employees whose positions would be affected.
Company Plans to Continue Investing in Growth
Despite the workforce reduction, Netflix’s co-CEOs said the company remained on track to meet its full-year financial forecasts, citing its business performance and growth.
They added that Netflix would continue investing in areas expected to improve its service, encourage innovation and support expansion. However, they stressed that achieving these goals would require careful decisions about how the company allocates its employees and other resources.
The planned layoffs reflect a shift in workforce priorities as the streaming platform seeks to balance investment, operational efficiency and future growth.
Netflix’s Previous Layoffs in 2022
Netflix also reduced its workforce in 2022 after reporting a loss of approximately 200,000 subscribers in the first quarter. The company subsequently eliminated around 450 positions.
The latest reported job cuts come ahead of Netflix’s quarterly financial results, scheduled for release on October 20, 2026.
