Fans of classic anime will soon have the chance to experience Ninja Scroll on the big screen in a newly restored 4K presentation. The highly anticipated remaster will receive a limited theatrical release across the United States and Canada on October 4, 5, and 7, 2026.
Tickets for the special screenings are already available, giving North American audiences an opportunity to watch Yoshiaki Kawajiri’s iconic anime film in an upgraded presentation.
Ninja Scroll 4K Remaster Coming to Around 600 Theaters
HIDIVE and Iconic Events Releasing are teaming up to bring the restored version of Ninja Scroll to approximately 600 theaters throughout North America.
The three screening dates will offer different viewing options:
- October 4: Japanese audio with English subtitles
- October 5: English-dubbed version
- October 7: Encore screening, with subtitles or English dub depending on the theater
The theatrical run marks the first opportunity for audiences in North America to experience the newly restored 4K version of Ninja Scroll in cinemas.
Yoshiaki Kawajiri Oversees Ninja Scroll 4K Restoration
The new remaster has been restored under the supervision of original writer and director Yoshiaki Kawajiri and produced by Sentai.
The restoration process began by scanning the original 35mm film negative in 4K at a resolution of 3840 × 2160. The production team then carried out extensive frame-by-frame restoration work, repairing damage and correcting colors.
The completed restoration has been created as a new archival-quality digital master, allowing the classic film to receive a significantly refreshed presentation while retaining its original visual identity.
What Is Ninja Scroll About?
Originally released in 1993, Ninja Scroll was produced by the renowned animation studio Madhouse and directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri.
The story follows Jubei, a skilled ninja whose journey takes an unexpected turn after he rescues a young female ninja. He soon becomes involved in an investigation into the mysterious deaths of an entire village.
As Jubei and his companion dig deeper, they discover that the incident is connected to a much larger conspiracy. Their investigation eventually brings them face-to-face with a group of powerful supernatural enemies determined to eliminate them.
The film is widely recognized for its intense action, dark atmosphere and distinctive supernatural ninja battles.
