South Korea is experiencing a major surge in international tourism, with visitor numbers approaching the country’s previous annual record well before the end of the year. The growing interest in the destination is creating fresh opportunities for its shopping, accommodation and wellness sectors.
International Arrivals Approach Previous Record
Preliminary figures from South Korea’s tourism authorities put international arrivals at approximately 18.91 million . The previous annual record was around 18.94 million, meaning the latest total is already close to that benchmark, with more than two months remaining in the year.
Officials expect visitor numbers to continue rising if the current trend holds, potentially taking annual arrivals beyond 20 million for the first time.
Shopping and Wellness Drive Visitor Growth
Shopping remains an important part of South Korea’s appeal, while accommodation and wellness services are also contributing to tourism spending. The country is working towards attracting 23 million international visitors by the end of the year.
If the current momentum continues, South Korea could achieve a new tourism milestone and strengthen its position as a destination for international holidaymakers.
