Star Detective Precure! The Movie: The Mysterious Garden and a Secret Pair has set a new box-office record for a standalone film in the popular Precure anime franchise. After approximately one month in Japanese cinemas, the movie earned ¥1.24 billion and attracted 977,000 viewers, according to figures announced on October 18, 2026.
New Record for a Standalone Precure Film
The movie has surpassed the previous standalone-film record held by Wonderful Precure! The Movie: Doki Doki Game World Adventure! (2024), which earned approximately ¥1.24 billion. The latest film reached the milestone in its first month, demonstrating strong audience interest in the newest big-screen adventure.
However, the overall franchise record remains with Precure All Stars Movie F, the 2023 crossover film, which earned ¥1.54 billion.
Strong Opening at Japanese Cinemas
The film opened in Japan on September 18, 2026, and made an impressive start. During its first three days, it attracted 357,612 moviegoers and collected approximately ¥445.58 million at the box office.
It also crossed the ¥1 billion mark on its 17th day in theatres, setting a new pace for the franchise’s films to reach that milestone.
A Mystery Featuring Anna and Mikuru
Connected to the 2026 Star Detective Precure! television series, the movie follows the franchise’s central characters, Anna Akechi and Mikuru Kobayashi, as they become involved in a mysterious case.
The story introduces a secretive garden, unusual fairy characters and a mystery that brings the heroines into a new adventure. The film was produced by Toei Animation and expands the world of the current television series.
With its standalone-film record now confirmed, the movie has become one of the franchise’s biggest theatrical successes, although the overall box-office crown still belongs to the Precure All Stars crossover.
