Filmmaker Sundar C has responded to criticism surrounding the visual effects of his upcoming film Mookuthi Amman 2. After the trailer sparked discussions about whether artificial intelligence was used extensively to create the film’s visuals, the director has clarified that AI was involved in only a very small portion of the project.
Speaking at the film’s pre-release event in Chennai, Sundar C revealed that the movie contains nearly 3,000 CGI shots, of which only 15 used AI technology. He also highlighted the contribution of the technicians who worked on the film’s visual effects.
Nearly 400 Artists Worked on the Visual Effects
Sundar C praised the CGI department, which included approximately 400 artists. According to the filmmaker, the team worked continuously for around one and a half years to complete the film’s extensive visual effects.
He expressed disappointment over claims that the film had relied heavily on AI, saying such comments overlooked the effort and contribution of the technicians. He emphasised that most of the visual work was created by artists from Tamil Nadu.
The director also described Mookuthi Amman 2 as one of the most challenging projects of his career and encouraged audiences to judge the technical work after watching the film.
Nayanthara Returns in a New Role
The sequel features Nayanthara in the lead role, returning as the titular goddess while also portraying a police officer. Regina Cassandra and Duniya Vijay play important antagonist roles.
The supporting cast includes Urvashi, Yogi Babu, Abhinaya, Ramachandra Raju, Myna Nandini and Singampuli. Music for the film has been composed by Hiphop Tamizha.
Theatrical Release on November 6
Mookuthi Amman 2 is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on November 6, 2026, with paid premieres planned at selected theatres on November 5.
The clarification from Sundar C has brought attention back to the film’s technical team and the extensive work behind its visual effects. With Nayanthara returning in the popular role, the sequel is preparing for its theatrical release.
