Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani and Bloomberg co-founder Michael Bloomberg met at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in New Delhi to discuss India’s economic growth, clean energy transition, sustainable infrastructure and the future of artificial intelligence (AI).
Following the meeting, Bloomberg said he was pleased to discuss Adani’s vision for India’s future development and energy transition. Adani also shared details of their discussion on social media platform X, highlighting climate action, resilient urban infrastructure, AI and sustainable growth.
Adani Stresses Affordable Clean Energy
Adani said India’s energy transition must make clean power affordable and commercially viable while supporting the country’s growing infrastructure and development needs.
He cautioned that decarbonisation should not increase costs for ordinary citizens, force factories to shut down or slow economic progress in developing countries.
According to Adani, the transition will require investment, supportive policies and effective execution to reduce the additional cost of adopting green energy. His emphasis was on making clean power a more affordable and practical choice for households and businesses.
Infrastructure and Governance Key to India’s Growth
Adani highlighted the importance of expanding India’s electricity supply, industrial capacity and digital infrastructure to support long-term economic development and improve living standards.
He said nation-building requires more than physical assets such as ports, power transmission networks, green hydrogen facilities and computing infrastructure. Reliable data, transparent governance, accountable institutions and capable local leadership are also essential.
Adani emphasised the need for long-term investment, efficient project execution and strong local leadership to ensure that infrastructure development delivers meaningful benefits.
Dharavi Redevelopment and Future Development
The discussion also covered urban renewal, advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence and green infrastructure. Referring to the Dharavi redevelopment project in Mumbai, Adani said its success should be measured by improvements in residents’ living conditions and livelihoods rather than simply by the scale of construction.
He said urban redevelopment should combine better infrastructure with community trust and the protection of existing economic activities.
Adani stressed that the ultimate purpose of infrastructure is to improve people’s lives and expand opportunities. Bloomberg also addressed the forum on Tuesday, discussing India’s progress in AI, advanced manufacturing and green infrastructure.
