Actor-filmmaker Rishab Shetty, who gained widespread recognition for Kantara, is preparing for a major historical role. He will portray Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in an upcoming two-part film titled The Pride of Bharat – Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Producer Bhushan Kumar has joined hands with Rishab Shetty and filmmaker Sandeep Singh for the ambitious project. The announcement brings together T-Series and Legend Studios for a historical saga centred on the life and legacy of the Maratha ruler.
Film to Explore Shivaji Maharaj’s Life and Legacy
The two-part historical epic will cover important chapters from Shivaji Maharaj’s life, including his achievements, leadership, major battles, victories and sacrifices.
The makers also intend to bring lesser-known episodes of his journey to the screen. His vision of Swarajya, which remains an important part of his legacy, will be a central theme of the story.
The project is being planned on a large scale, with an ensemble cast and creative professionals from India and overseas.
Sandeep Singh to Direct the Film
Filmmaker Sandeep Singh will direct the historical project. He has also co-written the screenplay with Rishi Virmani.
Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar will produce the film, while Rishab Shetty, Shiv Chanana and Kabiir Sadanand are associated as co-producers.
As part of the announcement, Bhushan Kumar presented Shetty with a century-old painting of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, marking the beginning of their collaboration.
Shooting Scheduled to Begin in 2027
The film is currently in its pre-production stage, with shooting scheduled to begin in early 2027. The makers have not yet announced the complete cast or theatrical release date.
For Rishab Shetty, the project represents a significant opportunity to portray one of India’s most celebrated historical figures. The two-part format is expected to give the filmmakers room to explore different phases of Shivaji Maharaj’s life and legacy.
