Noida International Airport has conducted a full-scale emergency preparedness exercise named SAKSHAM 2026 to assess its ability to respond to airport emergencies. The exercise brought together airline representatives, security personnel, government departments, emergency services and the district administration.
The drill was held in accordance with guidelines issued by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). It was designed to test how effectively different agencies could coordinate their actions during a simulated airport emergency.
Firefighting and Rescue Operations Tested
The exercise covered several important response procedures, including activating emergency alerts, carrying out firefighting and rescue operations, and mobilising emergency teams and equipment.
Participants included IndiGo, the Airports Authority of India, the Central Industrial Security Force, Uttar Pradesh Police, the National Disaster Response Force, fire services, medical teams and hospital representatives.
Green Corridor and Medical Response Reviewed
A key part of the exercise involved testing traffic management arrangements and the creation of a green corridor to help transport injured people quickly to designated medical facilities.
Teams also evaluated communication systems, information sharing and response timelines to identify areas where coordination and procedures could be improved.
Airport Says Regular Drills Strengthen Safety
Nitu Samra, Chief Executive Officer of Noida International Airport, said safety and preparedness remain central to airport operations. She highlighted the importance of coordination between different teams and agencies during an emergency.
The airport said such exercises help staff understand their responsibilities, review existing procedures and improve readiness for different emergency situations. The drill was a planned exercise, not a real airport emergency.
