Wearable devices are increasingly being viewed as useful tools for preventive healthcare in India. Health experts say smartwatches and other connected devices can help people monitor everyday health indicators and notice changes that may need medical attention.
From Step Counts to Health Monitoring
Modern wearable devices can track more than daily activity. Many models now offer features related to sleep patterns, heart rate and stress monitoring. These measurements may help users understand their health trends over time, although they cannot replace medical tests or a doctor’s assessment.
Technology Could Support Rural Healthcare
Apollo Hospitals and Garmin Health are also exploring the use of wearable technology in rural healthcare. In one programme in Aragonda village, Andhra Pradesh, 100 watches were provided to help monitor health indicators among people with diabetes and high blood pressure.
A Growing Role for Preventive Care
Experts believe that combining digital tools, healthcare services and timely medical advice could strengthen preventive care. The focus is shifting towards identifying potential health concerns earlier rather than relying only on treatment after symptoms become serious.
