The popular anime franchise Bocchi the Rock! is expanding with a new prequel film titled Hoshi no Ashiato, which is scheduled to arrive in 2027. The announcement has generated excitement among fans who have been waiting for another major project from the series.
Story Focuses on Seika and Nijika’s Past
The film will explore the relationship between Seika Ijichi and her younger sister Nijika, taking viewers back to events that happened before the formation of Kessoku Band. The story begins with the sisters’ separation ten years earlier and follows the dreams that shaped their lives.
The film adapts a special story included in the fifth volume of the original manga by Aki Hamaji. It will offer viewers a closer look at the sisters’ history and the events leading towards the opening of the live music venue STARRY.
CloverWorks Returns for the Film
The animation will be produced by CloverWorks, with Shin Wakabayashi directing. Erika Yoshida is writing the screenplay, while Yukiko Horiguchi is responsible for character designs.
Maaya Uchida will return as Seika, and Sayumi Suzushiro will voice Nijika. A teaser visual and announcement trailer have already been released, although the exact 2027 release date has not yet been confirmed.
Season 2 Is Also in Production
The movie announcement is separate from the previously confirmed second season of Bocchi the Rock!, which remains in production. The franchise is therefore preparing to return with both a new film and another television season.
The upcoming prequel is expected to give fans a deeper understanding of the Ijichi sisters before the main band’s story began.
