India’s rail travel network has added a new overnight connection between two major cities with the launch of the Bengaluru–Mumbai Vande Bharat Sleeper Express. The service is designed to make long-distance journeys more convenient while offering passengers a faster alternative to several existing train options.
Flagged off from Bengaluru the train is scheduled to begin its regular service connecting SMVT Bengaluru and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Mumbai. The journey takes approximately 16 hours, potentially saving several hours compared with many conventional trains on the route.
Overnight Connectivity Between Two Major Cities
The new sleeper service gives passengers an additional option for travelling between Karnataka and Maharashtra. Operating six days a week, it is intended to improve connectivity for people travelling for work, education, tourism and family visits.
The train aims to make overnight travel more comfortable by combining sleeper accommodation with the features of the Vande Bharat service. Its introduction also strengthens rail links between important cities along the route.
Regional Food Adds a Local Touch to the Journey
One of the notable features is its onboard catering menu, which includes dishes associated with the regions served by the train. Breakfast options include idli with sambhar, masala poha, kesari bath and other choices, while passengers can also expect regional dishes during dinner.
The menu has been planned to offer passengers a variety of familiar meal options during the overnight journey. Tea and other refreshments are also included in the catering arrangements.
A New Option for Rail Tourists
The Bengaluru–Mumbai route connects major urban centres and provides access to destinations across two popular travel regions. The new service may be useful for tourists who prefer travelling overnight and reaching their destination without spending much of the day in transit.
With faster journey times, sleeper accommodation and region-specific meals, the new train adds another choice to India’s expanding premium rail network.
