Travellers planning to explore Spain by train in November may face service disruptions after the train drivers’ union SEMAF announced two new strike days at Renfe. The planned action is expected to affect services across the country, including high-speed, long-distance and local trains.
Two Days of Planned Disruption
The first strike is scheduled for November 10, with a full-day stoppage from 12:01 AM to 11:59 PM.
On November 12, partial stoppages are planned during three time slots:
- 6:20 AM to 9:20 AM
- 2:20 PM to 5:20 PM
- 9:20 PM to 11:20 PM
Which Train Services Could Be Affected?
The action concerns train drivers across the Renfe group. Services potentially affected include AVE high-speed trains, long-distance services, Media Distancia and Cercanías commuter trains.
The exact list of cancelled or modified trains will depend on the minimum-service levels announced by Spain’s transport authorities.
Why Are Drivers Planning the Strike?
SEMAF says the action is linked to concerns about railway safety and delays in implementing previously discussed measures. Renfe has previously stated that it has fulfilled its commitments and that some requested measures fall outside its direct responsibility.
Advice for Tourists Visiting Spain
Visitors travelling between cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Seville should check their train status before heading to the station. Passengers should also monitor official Renfe announcements for changes, cancellations and ticket arrangements.
The planned strikes could affect holiday itineraries, airport connections and intercity journeys, so travellers may need to keep some flexibility in their schedules.
