Sri Lanka has recorded its strongest-ever tourist arrival figures for October, welcoming 168,625 international visitors during the month. The latest figures indicate renewed interest in the island nation as the winter travel season approaches.
The October total was 2.1% higher than the 165,193 visitors recorded in October 2025, setting a new monthly record for the country.
Indian Travellers Lead the Growth
India remained Sri Lanka’s biggest source of international tourists, contributing 62,211 visitors, or around 37% of October’s total arrivals. The United Kingdom ranked second with 12,402 visitors, followed by China with 11,190.
Australia and Germany also featured among the leading source markets, recording 8,509 and 8,027 visitors respectively.
Tourism Numbers Cross 1.86 Million
Between January and October 2026, Sri Lanka welcomed a total of 1,862,304 international tourists. India continued to lead the year-to-date figures, with 499,625 visitors during the first ten months.
October’s performance is particularly significant because arrivals had experienced several months of year-on-year declines earlier in 2026.
Winter Season Brings Fresh Opportunities
The latest growth offers encouragement to Sri Lanka’s tourism industry ahead of the busy winter period. The country is looking to attract more international visitors through its beaches, cultural attractions, wildlife experiences and scenic destinations.
The record October figure signals improving visitor interest, although maintaining growth during the remaining months will be important for the country’s annual tourism performance.
