Kolkata is looking to strengthen its position as a destination for live entertainment, with international DJ HUGEL expected to perform in the city on December 25, 2026. The planned show is being seen as an opportunity to attract music fans from other parts of India and give the city a bigger presence on the country’s concert tourism map.
The concert is being planned at a venue that has not previously hosted a live music event. However, the organisers have not yet officially announced the location.
Concerts Could Attract More Visitors to Kolkata
The initiative is being led by Saksham Mohta, who believes major live music events can encourage people to travel to Kolkata. Visitors coming for the performance may also explore the city’s food, cultural attractions and hospitality.
The aim is to build a stronger local concert scene so that music fans do not always have to travel to cities such as Mumbai, Bengaluru or Delhi to watch international performers.
Organisers Hope to Draw Fans From Other States
The December 25 show is expected to attract audiences from neighbouring states and other regions. The date also coincides with Christmas, one of Kolkata’s major festive occasions, making it a significant opportunity to combine live entertainment with the city’s seasonal celebrations.
Mohta also hopes the concert can become an annual event, with more live shows organised on important dates in the future.
Venue Infrastructure Remains a Challenge
Despite the ambition, finding suitable venues remains a major obstacle for organisers. The availability of spaces with the infrastructure required for large international performances is limited, making it difficult to bring major artists to the city.
The organisers’ immediate focus is on developing a stronger audience for live music and creating more opportunities for Kolkata to host large-scale performances.
