Students from economically weaker families have received additional time to apply for financial assistance under the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS). The Ministry of Education has extended the application deadline for the 2026–27 academic session to November 15, 2026.
The scheme provides an annual scholarship of ₹12,000 to eligible students to help them continue their education and reduce the risk of dropping out after Class 8.
Who Can Benefit From the Scholarship?
The NMMSS scheme supports meritorious students from economically weaker sections studying in government, government-aided and local body schools.
Selected students receive ₹12,000 annually, subject to the scheme’s eligibility and academic requirements. The scholarship can continue from Class 9 to Class 12.
Applications Through National Scholarship Portal
Eligible students can submit their applications through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
The scholarship process includes registration, document authentication and verification by the concerned educational institutions and district authorities.
Important Verification Deadlines
The application deadline has been extended to November 15, 2026. Students should also pay attention to the verification schedule:
- Student application deadline: November 15, 2026.
- Institute-level verification: November 15, 2026.
- District-level verification: November 30, 2026.
Why Is This Extension Important?
The additional time gives eligible students and their families another opportunity to complete the application process. It also allows schools and concerned authorities to complete the required verification.
Students who have not yet applied should check their eligibility and ensure that their application is submitted within the revised deadline.
