Indian Railways has introduced a new overnight travel option between Varanasi and New Delhi, with the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express beginning regular commercial operations . The service is designed to make long-distance journeys more convenient for passengers travelling between eastern Uttar Pradesh and the national capital.
The train combines sleeper accommodation with modern onboard facilities, allowing passengers to travel overnight and reach their destination the following morning.
Overnight Journey with Four Major Stops
The train covers approximately 760 kilometres and connects Varanasi with New Delhi through Prayagraj, Kanpur Central, Aligarh and Ghaziabad.
The Varanasi–New Delhi service departs at 8:50 PM and is scheduled to arrive at 6:10 AM the next morning. In the return direction, the train leaves New Delhi at 9:40 PM and reaches Varanasi at 7:10 AM.
It operates six days a week. The Varanasi-originating service does not run on Fridays, while the New Delhi-originating service does not operate on Saturdays.
Three Classes of Sleeper Accommodation
The 16-coach train offers three air-conditioned travel classes:
- First AC
- Second AC
- Third AC
It has a total capacity of 823 passengers. The train also features improved berths, automatic doors, enhanced suspension and onboard safety systems.
Faster Connectivity for Travellers
Compared with the existing Shiv Ganga Express, the new service is expected to reduce journey time by 55 minutes from Varanasi to New Delhi and 35 minutes in the opposite direction.
The overnight schedule could be useful for pilgrims visiting Varanasi, tourists, students, families and working professionals who regularly travel between the two cities.
A New Chapter for Overnight Rail Travel
The launch adds another modern sleeper service to India’s railway network. By combining overnight travel with upgraded passenger facilities, the Vande Bharat Sleeper aims to offer a more comfortable option for long-distance journeys.
Passengers should check the latest timetable and seat availability through official railway booking channels before travelling.
