Travel plans across parts of South India have been affected as Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu approaches the Andhra Pradesh coastline. The developing weather situation has disrupted flight operations, affected regional transport and forced authorities to restrict access to several popular tourist destinations.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy rainfall and strong winds, with the cyclone expected to cross the south Andhra Pradesh coast.
Chennai Airport Cancels Flights Amid Severe Weather
Chennai Airport cancelled 11 IndiGo flights as a precaution against worsening weather conditions. Flights connecting Chennai with Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Kadapa and Tiruchirappalli were among those affected.
Airlines have advised passengers to check their flight status before leaving for the airport. Operations at other airports in Andhra Pradesh, including Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry and Tirupati, have also experienced weather-related disruption.
Popular Tourist Attractions Face Temporary Restrictions
Authorities in Andhra Pradesh have temporarily closed or restricted access to several tourist destinations because of the approaching cyclone.
Some of the affected locations include:
- Kailasagiri
- Rushikonda Beach
- RK Beach
- Bapatla coastal areas
- Suryalanka Beach
These restrictions are intended to protect tourists and local residents from dangerous weather conditions.
Train Services Also Face Disruptions
Railway authorities have suspended or diverted several services along vulnerable coastal routes. Around 32 train services passing through parts of Odisha and coastal Andhra Pradesh have been affected by the weather situation.
Passengers travelling through the region are advised to check official railway announcements before beginning their journeys.
What Travellers Should Know
The approaching cyclone is expected to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to parts of southern India. Travellers should follow official weather alerts, confirm transport schedules and avoid visiting beaches or restricted coastal locations until authorities declare conditions safe.
The situation highlights how extreme weather events can affect India’s tourism and transportation networks, particularly during busy travel periods.
