Retired employees covered under the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS) are waiting for an increase in the minimum monthly pension. A fresh development has brought renewed attention to this long-pending demand, as the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) may consider the issue at its upcoming Central Board of Trustees (CBT) meeting.
According to a report published on October 30, 2026, the proposed increase in the minimum EPS pension could be discussed during the 240th CBT meeting, reportedly scheduled for November 19, 2026, in Gir, Gujarat.
However, no official decision has been announced regarding an increase in the minimum pension amount.
Current Minimum EPS Pension Remains ₹1,000
At present, eligible pensioners under the Employees’ Pension Scheme receive a minimum monthly pension of ₹1,000.
The minimum pension guarantee was introduced to provide financial support to retired employees covered under the scheme. If the pension calculated under the applicable formula is lower than ₹1,000, the government provides the necessary support to maintain the minimum amount.
For many retired employees, this amount has remained a major concern because of rising household expenses and the increasing cost of living.
EPFO CBT Meeting Scheduled for November 19
The upcoming 240th meeting of the Central Board of Trustees is reportedly scheduled for November 19, 2026.
The long-standing demand for increasing the minimum EPS pension may be taken up during the meeting. Pensioners’ organisations have repeatedly raised concerns about the existing minimum amount and called for a revision.
However, whether the proposal will receive approval or result in an immediate increase remains uncertain.
How Is EPS Pension Calculated?
The monthly pension under EPS is calculated using the following formula:
Monthly Pension = (Pensionable Salary × Pensionable Service) ÷ 70
Pensionable salary is generally calculated using the average monthly salary during the last 60 months of pensionable service, subject to applicable scheme rules.
The pension amount depends on an employee’s eligible salary and years of pensionable service.
Will the Minimum Pension Increase in November 2026?
For now, EPS pensioners should not consider any proposed increase as confirmed.
The existing minimum pension remains ₹1,000 per month. A final revision will require an official government decision and notification.
The November CBT meeting could provide an important update on the issue, but pensioners will have to wait for an official announcement to know whether the minimum monthly pension will actually increase.
