Actress and producer Priyanka Chopra Jonas has joined the Indian short film We Were Here as an executive producer, supporting the project as it moves forward with its Academy Awards campaign. Directed by Pranav Bhasin, the film has attracted international attention through its festival screenings and award wins.
Priyanka is joining actor Andrew Scott and Tony Award-winning playwright and activist V, formerly known as Eve Ensler, as part of the film’s executive production team.
A Unique Story About Artificial Intelligence
We Were Here is a comedy set in a small Indian town. It follows three retired men who become concerned that machines are taking over human jobs. In an unusual protest, they begin pretending to be household appliances.
Their campaign takes an unexpected turn when one of their children joins an artificial intelligence company. Through humour and an unusual storyline, the film explores technology, employment and people’s fear of becoming irrelevant in a rapidly changing world.
More Than 20 International Awards
The short film has screened at more than 80 international film festivals and collected over 20 awards.
Among its achievements are the Audience Award for Best Narrative Short and the Redbreast Unhidden Award at South by Southwest (SXSW). It also received awards for Best Live-Action Short Film Under 15 Minutes and Best Comedy Short at Palm Springs International ShortFest.
Its recognition at Palm Springs secured its eligibility for Academy Award consideration.
The New Yorker Acquires the Film
The film has also been acquired by The New Yorker, which is planning to premiere it through its official YouTube channels.
Priyanka’s involvement brings additional international attention to the project as the team looks to introduce the story to a wider audience.
