EPFO Revises the Wage Eligibility Limit
The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has increased the statutory wage ceiling for mandatory PF coverage from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 per month. The revised limit came into effect on September 17, 2026, bringing more salaried workers under the EPF, EPS and EDLI social security schemes.
More Than 51 Lakh Workers Expected to Benefit
According to the government’s announcement, the revised wage ceiling is expected to extend mandatory EPFO coverage to more than 51 lakh additional formal-sector employees earning between ₹15,000 and ₹25,000 per month.
This change is expected to widen access to retirement savings, pension benefits and insurance protection for eligible workers.
What Changes for PF Contributions?
With the revised ceiling, eligible employees and employers may see changes in their PF contributions, depending on the applicable wage calculation.
The maximum employer contribution towards the pension scheme at 8.33% of the pensionable wage will increase from ₹1,250 to ₹2,083 per month.
What Employees Should Know
Employees earning within the newly covered salary range should check their PF membership and contribution details with their employers. The revised ceiling is an important change in India’s formal-sector social security framework.
