Research Examines Skin Recovery After Dermatological Procedures
An Indian multicentre study involving 2,066 patients across 477 dermatology centres has examined how patients experienced skin recovery after acne-related procedures such as chemical peels, laser toning and microneedling.
The research focused on post-procedure concerns including dryness, redness, itching and burning sensations. It assessed patient-reported outcomes after seven days of using a ceramide-based moisturiser with SPF 50+.
What the Participants Reported
By the seventh day, 61.2% of participants reported complete improvement in dryness, while 58.6% reported complete improvement in burning or stinging sensations. More than 60% also reported complete improvement in itching and redness.
Around 67.9% reported no or minimal worsening of acne during the observation period.
Study Limitations
The research was observational and evaluated one specific skincare formulation, rather than comparing different moisturisers against a control group. It also received an educational grant from the product manufacturer, which is an important consideration when interpreting the findings.
Researchers said the results add real-world information about post-procedure skincare, but further controlled studies are needed to confirm how much improvement can be attributed to the product itself.
