8th Pay Commission Completes One Year
The 8th Central Pay Commission has completed one year since its formal constitution, but central government employees are still waiting for clarity on their revised salary structure. The commission was officially established on November 3, 2025, and has been given 18 months to submit its recommendations.
Fitment Factor and Minimum Basic Salary Remain Undecided
One of the biggest concerns among employees is the fitment factor, which will determine how existing basic salaries are revised. The government has not yet announced the new fitment factor or the proposed minimum basic salary under the 8th Pay Commission.
Employees are also expecting recommendations on house rent allowance, other allowances, pension benefits and retirement-related payments.
What Happens Next?
The commission has been conducting consultations with employee associations, pensioners and other stakeholders. Its recent consultation meetings included Mumbai in October 2026.
The commission is expected to submit its recommendations by May 2027. After receiving the report, the government will examine the proposals and decide on their implementation.
For now, employees should remember that neither the revised salary figures nor the final implementation date has been officially confirmed.
