Fans of the Fate franchise have received a fresh look at Fate/Extra Record, with Aniplex releasing a new character promotional video focused on Caster. The upcoming title from Type-Moon studio BB is a full remake of Marvelous Entertainment’s 2010 Fate/Extra game for the PlayStation Portable.
Fate/Extra Record Caster Character Video Released
The newly released promotional video highlights Caster, who is once again voiced by Chiwa Saitō. The character showcase gives fans another glimpse at the remake as development continues toward its long-awaited launch.
Originally announced in July 2020 to mark the 10th anniversary of Fate/Extra, the remake has experienced multiple delays and changes in its development and publishing arrangements.
Fate/Extra Record Release Date and Platforms
Fate/Extra Record is scheduled to launch on January 28, 2027, following several postponements. The game will be available for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam.
Marvelous Europe will handle publishing duties for Europe and Australia, while Aniplex will publish the game.
The title was previously expected to arrive in spring of the current year after being pushed back from its earlier 2025 release window.
Limited and Digital Deluxe Editions Revealed
Players will have multiple editions to choose from. The physical Limited Edition will include a three-disc soundtrack, a SteelBook case and an artbook.
Meanwhile, the Digital Deluxe Edition will feature an arranged background music pack, a collection of Servant and player costumes, three additional outfit packs, a digital soundtrack and a digital artbook.
Fate/Extra Record Faced Major Development Changes
The game’s development has gone through significant changes over the years. Its release was previously delayed indefinitely after Notes, Type-Moon’s official corporate and publishing entity, reached a mutual agreement with Bandai Namco Entertainment for Bandai Namco to withdraw from its publishing role.
Type-Moon confirmed at the time that development would continue, although the overall development structure would be reorganised.
Another major change came with the departure of Kazuya Nino, the director and planner of Fate/Extra Record and director of Type-Moon studio BB. Nino left the studio for personal reasons and stepped away from his responsibilities on the remake. He also stated that he intended to take a break from game development because of health-related concerns.
Nino previously served as producer of the original Fate/Extra and was also involved with the first Etrian Odyssey title.
Arco Wada, meanwhile, is returning as the character designer for Fate/Extra Record.
A Look Back at the Fate/Extra Series
Marvelous Entertainment and Type-Moon originally released Fate/Extra in Japan for the PSP in 2010. Aksys Games later brought the title to North America in November 2011.
The companion game Fate/Extra CCC followed in Japan in March 2013. Both games take place in an alternate science-fiction setting within the larger Fate universe, commonly known among fans as the “Extraverse.”
The series later expanded beyond video games, inspiring the anime Fate/Extra Last Encore, produced by SHAFT. The 10-episode television series premiered in Japan in January 2018, while Netflix began streaming it internationally in June of the same year. A three-episode special, Fate/Extra Last Encore: Illustrias Tendōsetsu (Illustrias Geocentrism), followed in July 2018.
More Fate Games in the Extraverse
The Fate/Extra storyline also spawned the action-oriented Fate/EXTELLA games. Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star launched for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita in Japan in November 2016 before XSEED Games released it internationally in January 2017. PC and Nintendo Switch versions arrived later in July 2017.
An enhanced follow-up, Fate/EXTELLA LINK, debuted in Japan in June 2018, with its Western release arriving through XSEED Games in March 2019.
More recently, Koei Tecmo released Fate/Samurai Remnant in September 2023. The action RPG is available worldwide on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC through Steam.
With the latest Caster character trailer, Fate/Extra Record is once again attracting attention from long-time fans of the franchise as anticipation builds for its eventual release.
